If you’ve followed the thread here and on AccManPro on the idea of a Wiki based resource aimed at helping SMEs and start up companies in the UK and Europe, it is an object lesson on how fast things can move in the new connected world of media and the blogosphere. The response has been amazing. We are currently building the framework of the site, and some of the many volunteer contributors are already invited to our SocialText based workspace, helping build the starting point of StartMEup.
It was only last Tuesday I saw an excellent US resource Smallbusiness.com and late in the day I posted a blog about it. Now it’s Saturday lunch time, and we have our framework and objectives set, a Wiki workspace structure in place, an initial wave of contributors who want to help, a new domain name (soon to be announced), and we are part way through our launch plan. Along the way we’ve had interest from major organisations like Microsoft, but we are endeavouring to make sure the resource stays independent, easy for the UK and Europe business community to use and contribute to, and relatively free from advertising. “Link love” is a key part of our model, but you’ll get the full explanation when you see the site.
