One of my clients, Goodman Jones, a 13 partner, 85 staff, forward thinking accounting practice based in the Fitzrovia area of London (right near the BT Tower) are looking for a new manager to join their team. They’ve been advertising through conventional means with Accountancy Age and the like, but they haven’t found the right guy or gal yet. Dennis offered to give them some free exposure, and I thought I’d follow suit.
As I’ve mentioned before, GJ are up for this year’s Accountancy Age awards in the category “Best use of internet: Practice”. Philip Woodgate and some of us have been speculating on what the acceptance speech should be like if they actually won. If you are interested in the job, it might be worth looking around their website and Philip’s blog - Philip is the guy you’d be working for. It’s great to find an accountant who really knows his stuff, is open to new ideas, wants to take the profession and his practice forward (whilst having a bit of fun and not taking himself too seriously). Go across to Dennis’s place for a fuller job description and more insights in to what is required and what GJ are like. He summarised the requirement as follows:
Wanted: Manager – Accounting Systems and Services department with heavy emphasis on technologyLocation: London West End (Fitzrovia, Warren Street tube)Salary: £40-50K pa (59-75K Euro, $71-95K)Job description: Two core requirements:
- Managing the ‘team’ engaged in day-to-day bookkeeping, VAT, management accounts and budgeting for a wide portfolio of clients; and
- The implementation of accounting packages – from the initial potential client facing stage to the conversion, installation and configuration of the system, and the training of clients and staff.
If you are ambitious, and see yourself in “footballing terms” as a player/manager on the way up, I’d take a serious look at this opportunity. You will have to prepare yourself for some unusual challenges in the selection process, some of which will be online.
