Recently I’ve posted about Second Life, and some of the other MMORPGs that are springing up. Second Life seems to be more than just a game, and could have potential business value. I know Dennis is exploring it, and David is lurking around investigating it. I’m looking forward to hearing his findings, but I decided I would experiment with it myself. The first thing I’ve discovered is you need a meatier PC, with the kind of graphics card required for gaming. So I can’t use the home PC, but my Sony Vaio work laptop works fine. The second thing is that you have to spend money if you want to keep your own identity. The free accounts offer you a prescribed list of surnames, and you chose a first name which hasn’t been used by anyone else. My SL alter ego is called Davey Tone - say hi if you bump in to me. I’m at the early stage of figuring out how to move around, communicate and explore. Give me a few weeks and I’ll report on what the experience is like, and what business is going on there.
